What the North Salem counseling team provides

The Counseling department at North Salem High School wants our students to receive a high quality education. The counseling department has many resources for students looking for, educational assistance, college and career guidance, mental health assistance, or general help with challenges outside of school. The North Salem High School counseling department is a great place to get the help you or your child may need.

Academic guidance

The guidance department can help students with preparing for college. Making sure each student is on track to achieve their college and career goals. Some of responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Helping with College applications
  • Helping with FAFSA
  • Making sure students are on track for graduation
  • helping students get tutoring
  • Scheduling
  • Tracking for NCAA eligibility and clearing house
  • Scholarships

Social/Emotional

Although our counselors do not provide counseling sessions they are qualified professionals who can help assist in any Social Emotional growth of your child. Our counselors can help provide resources for the following areas:
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Grief/loss
  • Social Skill development
  • Anger management
  • Self-harm/suicidal idealization
  • Gender or sexual orientation Identity

Enrollment

When enrolling please have the following information: 
  • Updated transcript and grades from most recent school
  • Proof of address: utility, gas, electric, rental agreement.
  • Legal guardian and student need to be present.
  • Copy of an Individual Education Plan (IEP) (if you student has one).
  • Copy of a 504 (medical accommodations, if you student has one).
  • We do accept walk-in enrollments but it is helpful if you schedule an appointment ahead of time. 
We can our students with school supplies if they are needed. 

Social Services

Our counselors have resources to help out students who are experiencing:
  • Abuse
  • Homelessness
  • Hunger
  • Financial hardships.
  • Lack of medical care
  • Hard time joining clubs, groups, sports due to fees
